How We Work

General Requirements

Available Tuesdays 7-9pm
for the duration of the quarter for our Weekly General Meeting.
*Day of week is subject to change.
Able to uphold a minimum one quarter commitment.
New members will have an introductory period of 1 quarter and be invited back should work quality standards and expectations be met.
Able to uphold a time commitment of 10 hours per week
(including all meetings/events and independent work).
Roles
Software Engineer

Responsibilities

• Bring products to life by implementing features using modern technologies

• Develop, test, and maintain quality software

• Collaborate with designers and product managers and iterate based on feedback

Qualifications

• Understanding of programming fundamentals in any language

Preferred Qualifications

• Web or mobile development experience using modern frameworks (React, React Native)

• Familiarity with app development concepts including databases and REST APIs

Product Manager

Responsibilities

• Oversee the ideation, design, development, testing, and launch of an AggieWorks product

• Define product features through user research and market research

• Lead a cross-functional team using Agile methodologies

Qualifications

• Passion for technology and building software products

Exposure to one or more of the following: Engineering, UI/UX Design, or Business

Excellent communication, leadership, and organization skills

Graphic Designer

Responsibilities

• Design visually captivating graphics to market AggieWorks products to students

• Create compelling design assets that effectively convey product value based on branding guidelines

• Uphold the AggieWorks brand identity across various mediums including social media, websites, and marketing collateral

Qualifications

• Mastery of graphic design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, etc.

• Demonstrated ability in crafting high-quality visual content tailored for specific audiences

• Strong understanding of branding, typography, color theory, and layout design

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in digital marketing or product design

• Experience in a diverse range of design mediums/skills (e.g. UI/UX, web design, motion graphics, print media, illustration, etc.)

Technical Product Manager

Responsibilities

• Oversee the software development of web and mobile applications

• Write technical specifications for product features and carry out implementation with an engineering team

• Conduct QA testing to create a smooth user experience

Qualifications

• Web or mobile development experience using modern frameworks (React, React Native)

• Familiarity with app development concepts including databases and REST APIs

• Proficient with GitHub

• Excellent communication, leadership, and organization skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience managing complex technical projects end-to-end

• Passion for driving good design and business outcomes

Product Marketing Manager

Responsibilities

• Ideate and execute unique marketing campaigns to promote AggieWorks products

• Strategize compelling messaging and positioning to grow user base and increase reach of products

• Oversee go-to-market strategy to drive the success of AggieWorks product launches

Qualifications

• Exposure to one or more of the following: Marketing, Business, Design, or UX Research.

• Excellent writing, organization, and storytelling skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with social media management

• Creative experience in marketing-adjacent roles (content creation, sales/customer facing roles, event planning, etc.)

Product Designer

Responsibilities

• Explore and create innovative solutions to real problems in the UCD community

• Conduct user research and testing to inform ideation and reiteration of product features

• Design intuitive interactions and develop wireframes to functioning prototypes

Qualifications

• Understanding of design fundamentals, design thinking principles, and UX research

How does AggieWorks operate?

Each member is placed on a cross-functional product team with engineers, designers, product managers, and marketers. Members attend weekly general meetings, bond through social events, and gain valuable technical and soft skills in their role.

What kinds of projects do members work on?

Members work on real products with real users. These include web and mobile apps catered to the needs of UC Davis students. Learn more about our existing products on our products page.

What is the time commitment like?

All members are expected to commit a minimum of 10 hours per week toward completion of their project and attendance of meetings/events. Being an AggieWorks members can be time consuming, so please be aware of your other time commitments before applying.

How can AggieWorks support me professionally?

We provide career resources and mentorship from experienced interns and alumni across product management, design, and engineering. Our members have gone on to work at companies including Apple, Meta, Google, Amazon, and LinkedIn.

What is the duration of each position?

Does AggieWorks have membership dues?

Yes, members are required to pay a $15 due each quarter. Membership dues go toward funding our products, org-wide events, and marketing costs.
